Give Us Paws Service Dog Program Track for Disabled Civilians
Please visit our Training page where the first step to attaining Service Dog status is to sign-up for either our:
- Puppy Start Right Preschool (puppies 8-20-weeks-old) 6 weeks or
- Basic Foundation Skills 1 class (dogs over 20-weeks-old) 6 weeks
- Basic Foundation Skills 2 - 6 weeks
- Applied Skills - 6 weeks
- Public Access Skills - 8 weeks
- Task-Training – Price and timing will vary between individual teams, private and group class options
The first classes in our service dog program, Puppy Start Right Preschool and Basic Foundation Skills 1, are open enrollment for civilians. Veterans seeking funding must go through our interview and application process and receive board approval. However, disabled veterans seeking to start training immediately do have the option of enrolling in the Basic Foundation Skills courses at a discounted rate.
Clearance to progress through to each course in the program is contingent on successful completion of earlier courses and will be given by trainers. This clearance is dependent on your dog's behavior and progress through training, as well as your participation and practice.
For civilian applicants, we require a letter from a physician or licensed therapist recommeding the use of a Service Animal pertaining to your disablility prior to beginning Public Access training.
